# Creating tasks

> Ask Henry in chat or use the task dialog. Schedules, models, and what Henry does with your description.

## From chat

Tell Henry what you want and when:

> @Henry every weekday at 8am, post a digest of new Linear issues assigned to our team here.

> @Henry remind me next Thursday at 3pm to send the board deck.

Henry understands natural times and honors the timezone you name ("7am PT"). If a similar task already exists, Henry says what it does and asks whether to update that one or create a separate task.

In chat you can also list, pause, resume, run, update, and delete tasks. Changing a task's **instructions** works in chat and keeps its schedule and history. Changing a task's **schedule** happens on the web task page.

## From the web app

Open **Tasks** and click **New task**.

### Let Henry set it up

The default. Describe what you want in **What do you want Henry to do?** and click **Set up with Henry**. Henry writes the runbook, then previews the first run against your real data before anything goes live. The task appears as a **Draft** until you activate it.

### Write instructions myself

Toggle to manual mode to fill in **Name**, an optional **Description**, and **What should Henry do?** yourself.

### Frequency

| Frequency | Options |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------- |
| **Once** | A specific date and time. |
| **Every few minutes** | Every 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes. |
| **Hourly** | On the hour. |
| **Daily** | A time of day. |
| **Weekdays (Mon to Fri)** | A time of day. |
| **Weekly** | A weekday and a time. |

The dialog shows a live preview: the schedule in words, the timezone, and where results will be delivered.

### Model and reasoning

**Model** defaults to **Workspace default**, which follows **Settings → Models**. Pick any model from the catalog to pin this task to it. **Reasoning** defaults to the model's default level; choose a specific level to change how deeply the task thinks. Cheaper models are a good fit for mechanical tasks such as inbox cleanup or a daily list. See [Choosing a model](/user-guide/models/choosing-a-model).

## Editing a task

Click **Edit** on the task page. Changing the instructions clears the task's write authorizations, because the new instructions may use different tools. Run a preview and activate again to re-authorize.

System tasks let you change the schedule and model but not the instructions.
