Set up Henry in Teams

Setting up Teams takes two steps, in this order. The first needs a Henry workspace owner or admin who can approve Microsoft admin consent. The second needs someone who can add apps in your Teams admin center, which is often the same person.
1

Connect Microsoft Teams in Henry

In the web app, open Channels and click Connect on the Microsoft Teams card. Approve the Microsoft admin consent prompt, then sign in with your Microsoft work account. You return to the page you started from, and the card shows Active.
2

Add the Henry app in Teams

Henry is not in the Teams Store yet, so your organization adds it from its app package. Open Channels → Microsoft Teams and click Download app package (it appears once Teams is connected). Then, in the Teams admin center, go to Teams apps → Manage apps → Upload new app and choose the file. Any workspace member can download the package. Uploading it needs Teams admin rights, so send the file to your Teams admin if that is not you.
Now add Henry to a team, or open a chat with it. Henry says hello with a welcome card and learns who is on that team.
Connect first, then add the app. Henry only answers in a Microsoft 365 tenant it already knows. If the app is added before the connection, the welcome card never arrives and Henry does not learn that team’s members. If that happened, remove Henry from the team and add it again.
The Teams app requests one resource-specific permission, ChannelMessage.Read.Group, so Henry can follow replies in threads it owns and learn from channels it has been added to. It requests no tenant-wide Microsoft Graph permissions. See Permissions Henry requests. Each person should link their Microsoft account once so Henry knows who they are in Teams. Go to Settings → Profile → Microsoft Teams account and click Link, then sign in with Microsoft. Unlink there undoes it. Approvals, memory, and authorship then stay yours across every channel. Until you link, Henry treats your Teams messages as coming from the person who installed it, and it refuses privileged actions on your behalf.

Join a workspace that already uses Teams

If your organization has already connected Henry, you do not need Microsoft admin rights to join it. Sign in to Henry, choose Join your team on Microsoft Teams on the Connect your team’s Henry page, and sign in with your Microsoft work account. Henry recognizes your organization and adds you to your team’s workspace, with no admin consent step. If your organization has not connected Henry yet, Henry tells you an admin needs to connect it first. Connect Microsoft Teams, on the same page, is the admin path: it starts at Microsoft admin consent, which only a Microsoft 365 admin can approve. A workspace admin can also invite you from Settings → Members.

Talk to Henry

  • Mention @Henry AI in a channel to ask a question or hand off a task. Henry replies in the thread.
  • Reply in Henry’s thread without tagging it again. In standard channels Henry follows the conversation.
  • Chat with Henry directly for private conversations. Only you can see them.
  • In a group chat, mention @Henry AI in every message you want it to see. Henry reads only the messages that mention it.
  • Ambient mode lets Henry reply, in a thread, when an untagged message in a standard channel is clearly something it can help with. It is off by default and set per channel.
  • Have Henry message a teammate in Teams: “tell Ada that the deck is ready”. Ask in Teams. On a workspace without Slack, you can also ask from the web app, a text, or an email. Henry shows you the recipient and the exact text first, and sends it only after you confirm. It arrives in a chat from Henry that names you as the person who asked. Only teammates on your workspace’s Teams roster can be messaged, never guests.

Channel commands

Teams has no slash commands, so channel controls are messages that mention Henry. Send them in the channel they should apply to. Anyone in your organization who can use Henry can run them.
Private and shared channels. Microsoft does not deliver untagged messages in private or shared channels to any app. In those channels, every message to Henry must mention it, including replies in a thread Henry started, and Henry does not learn from them. Ambient mode and channel reading work in standard channels only.

Approvals in Teams

When Henry needs your go-ahead, it posts a card showing exactly what it is about to do, with two buttons: Confirm (or Confirm all when several actions of the same kind are staged together) and Cancel. When Henry writes to one of your connected integrations, such as creating a ticket or updating a record, and the action spends no credits, the card’s … menu also offers:
  • Confirm + allow for this conversation and Confirm + allow for 24 hours, to stop being asked for a while.
  • Confirm + always allow this tool and Confirm + always allow all of that integration’s tools, to stop being asked for good.
Other cards, such as a Teams message to a teammate, an invite, or a channel post, have only Confirm and Cancel, and actions that spend credits always take a plain Confirm. When a card can’t show everything, it says so and links to the full text in Henry. For some actions it asks you to have Henry post the rest in the chat instead. After you click, the card updates to show the outcome and Henry continues the work. See Approvals.

Files

  • Images you paste or attach are read. Up to 10 files per message, about 4 MB per image.
  • Voice messages are transcribed and treated as your message.
  • Other file types are acknowledged by name, but Henry cannot read them in Teams today. Use a Project for documents.
Henry cannot upload files in Teams, so when it makes a file it sends a link instead.

Differences from Slack

Teams limits what apps can do, so a few things work differently:
  • No slash commands. Channel controls are the @Henry AI commands above.
  • No emoji reactions. Henry cannot add reactions in Teams, so it replies in words.
  • Group chats are mention-only. Henry sees only the messages that mention it, cannot read the rest of the chat, and learns nothing from group chats.
  • Private and shared channels need a mention on every message, and Henry does not learn from them.
  • History starts when Henry is added. Henry cannot read anything posted in a channel before it joined.
  • Formatting. Markdown tables and headings do not render in Teams messages, so Henry formats replies as lists instead.
Henry can @mention people in its Teams replies and reports, so the right person is notified.

Both Slack and Teams

A workspace can connect both platforms. When both are connected, admins see a Default surface picker on the Channels page. It decides where workspace-level reports and reminders go when they are not tied to a specific conversation or person. A workspace connects at most one Slack workspace and one Microsoft 365 tenant.

Reconnect or disconnect

Open Channels → Microsoft Teams. Reconnect refreshes the connection if something seems off. Disconnect stops Henry from responding in your tenant until an admin connects it again. To remove Henry from your tenant entirely, also delete the Henry AI enterprise application in Microsoft Entra ID.
